Remembering our fallen brethren in the UK

Tony Blair, the Joe Lieberman of the UK, has been a staunch ally in the War on Terror.  Let us join the UK in a moment of silence.

NEA Approves Pro-Homosexual Resolution

The NEA is at it again and what this has to do with education, I don’t know.  What it does have to do with is using union dollars to once again, push a political agenda.

Report: The nation's largest teachers' union voted to amend its resolutions Wednesday to include support for homosexual "marriage." The amendment, which met with harsh criticism from conservative family groups, passed with little resistance from delegates.

When will the insanity end?

Taiwan is NOT North Korea, dah

Report:  Taiwan to test fire missiles, and the U.S is expressing disappointment?  Relevent paragraphs:

The United States, which recognizes Beijing's "one China" policy but is Taiwan's major supplier of arms, had expressed its concern to the Taiwan government

China, which has claimed sovereignty over Taiwan since their split in 1949 at the end of the Chinese civil war, has deployed nearly 800 short-range ballistic missiles aimed at the self-ruled island in case it formally declares independence

So let me get this straight, we concerned that Taiwan is trying to respond to having 800 missiles pointed at it?  I’m disappointed too, that Taiwan doesn’t have more!

But, unfortunately, international diplomacy is series choices that are often between the lesser of two evils.  I believe the Bush administration may be more worried about North Korea and is trying to get China’s cooperation.  If true, it’s a flawed policy.  Again China is blocking the U.S and Japan in the Security Council.  I appreciate the complexities of foreign policy, but I believe a strong Taiwan is good for the U.S.  I also believe it may be time to readdress the WWII treaty with Japan because again, a strong Japan is also good for the U.S.

RHIO's - the real story

RHIO's (regional health information organizations) have gotten a lot of pub lately. And in principle, most would agree sharing medical information within a geographical region would be nice.  I mean, who wouldn't want any hospital they enter to have quick and easy access to the medical information?

But here's the truth:

1. No one has figured who's going to pay for it.  Can you say "higher taxes" or "government bureaucracy?"

2.  Many of the RHIO that have started are closed.  A consulting industry that is entirely dependant on RHIO's being implemented will not share that information, and the press (both MSM and the Healthcare press) don't talk about . The MSM because they are all for big government and the healthcare press because they don't want to loose all the advertising dollars associated with the RHIO industry.

3.  Perhaps most importantly, there are so many other healthcare technology initiatives that need to pursued , like positive patient ID, bed side scanning, PACS, and CPOE.  All of these technologies would have a much, much larger impact on patient safety and cost reductions than RHIO's.

Personal Health Records (PHR's) are a much better choice.  Individual ownership over government bureaucracy.

Questions for Republican Candidates

Here is a draft of an email I plan to send all of the Republican candidates in my local (Pinellas County, FL) and state primaries

Thank you for desire to enter into public service. Thank you also for seeking the nomination of the Republican Party. I would very much like you to respond to a few questions regarding a few issues of concern to the center-right. Your answers will be published, unedited on the Right as Rain blog, a part of the Townhall center-right blogosphere, and if you are not running unopposed, the responses of your opponent(s).

1. What are your views on oil exploration off the coast of Florida?

2. What do you believe if the effect of tax cuts on tax revenue?

3. How should earmarks be handled?

4. What are your views on border security?

5. What should the United States do with the illegal immigrants already in our country?

6. What are your views on limiting abortion rights?

7. What are your views on physician assisted suicide?

8. What are your views on stem-cell research?

9. What are your views on regulating campaign contributions?

Pelosi come lately, the new hawk in town

Hugh’s post on Majority wannabe (sorry for the nightmarish mental picture) Pelosi’s feigning toughness with North Korea rightly (pun intended) exposes the hypocrisy so often displayed by the left. Fortunately for us, the test went about as well as my neighbor’s home made fireworks display.

The question I would love to know, but don’t want the NY Times to answer, is had it ventured far enough into the Sea of Japan, would we have attempted to shoot is down? I hope we won’t have to find out.

Why Blog?

What inspired me? Frustration. The last SCOTUS decision, in particular Justice Kennedy's concurrance in Hamdan (HT Hughwitt)

So, here I am, officially a blogger. I apologize in advance for my errors, whether linguistic, technical, or protocol. I covet your feedback and advice in these areas as well as your thoughts on the subjects.  There are several issues that I have with the SCOTUS ruling, most of which hae already been raised in blogosphere but I am having difficulties linking.

1.  The SCOTUS is not given jursidiction to rule over enemy comabatants (previous SCOTUS rulings: 1950, in Johnson v. Eisentrager & 1942 Ex Parte Quirin

2.  SCOTUS is not authorized to enlist the US in a treaty, precisley what this ruling did (Geneva convention)

UPDATE:  I am delaying further blogging, I am having a lot technical problems with the Townhall screening software.  I'm sure I'll figure it out sooner or later.

UPDATE 2: All seems well now, the ring has been cast into fires of Mount Doom, and links are now working.
